Tui (Ngāpuhi) is an EAVE Producers Workshop, NZFC A – Z of Producing Workshop and Rotterdam Producers Lab alumnus with more than 20 years of experience as a writer, director, producer and executive producer in film, TV, video and marketing communications.
He trained as a script editor through the New Zealand Film Commission’s First Feature Film Lab with script consultant/writer Keith Thompson (The Sapphires, Clubland), the Script to Screen FilmUp mentorship program with Brita McVeigh, and the Script Factory Foundation Script Development Workshop.
Tui began his screen career in Japan, involved in producing stories for the US market. He later established a line production company, working with Japanese TVC production companies filming in New Zealand.
Two separate stints followed as a writer, director, producer, and later executive producer at one of New Zealand’s largest television production companies, with a further five years in Japan in varied roles, including as executive producer for international news agency Reuters.
He followed this with five years as managing director and executive producer of a boutique marketing communications agency servicing small and medium-sized businesses, large corporates, non-profits, and governmental and non-governmental organisations.
Tui is a graduate of Tokyo’s Sendagaya Japanese Language Institute where he spent three years studying written and spoken Japanese.
